The legendary ‘Big M’ fuzz circuit launched a thousand innuendos and riff after earth-shaking riff. It’s also inspired countless reinterpretations over the years, all based on a pretty consistent circuit topology – with one exception. The classic 1970s op-amp model has a tone and feel that’s all its own, delivering crushing walls of gain and a sound that’s bigger than ‘big’. The Siva is our take on this very special circuit. And as you’d expect, we’ve added a few extra bells and whistles to bring it into the present day.

Made famous by The Smashing Pumpkins on a string of classic records in the 1990s, the op-amp sound wasn’t a roaring success at first. Players in the 1970s preferred the transistor-based feel of the previous version, and couldn’t get along with crunchier, coarser, and sometimes sludgier distortion produced by the different components.

Times have changed. And these days the op-amp circuit is rightly looked on as a gateway to grungy brilliance. With the Siva, we’ve taken what makes it so iconic, added our own special sprinkling of added clipping options to make it more flexible, and ramped things up a notch in every department to put the sounds of the ‘70s, the ‘90s, and the future at your feet.

EQ is the secret to getting the best out of any type of ‘Big M’ circuit. And just like our transistor-based version, the American Geek, the Siva gives you two extra Shift controls that alter the capacitance of the tone stack for more control and the chance to get creative when dialling in specific sounds.

The Siva also features our signature diode rotary switch, which switches between eight different clipping types for even more versatility:

  • Germanium: Smooth, sweet, and classically ‘amp-like’.
  • Silicon: Louder, brighter, and a little bit brittle.
  • LED: Louder again, with less saturation and more punch.
  • Asymmetrical germanium: A more aggressive version of germanium.
  • Asymmetrical silicon: A more aggressive version of silicon.
  • Asymmetrical LED: A more aggressive version of LED.
  • Transistor/MOSFET: Similar to silicon, but sweeter and crunchier.
  • No diodes: Loads of output and much less gain.

And for those times where there’s no such thing as ‘too much gain’, the Siva’s Blast footswitch turns the drive all the way up, and activates a second volume control for seamless transitions between low and high-gain sounds.
